Sports Awards
Do you know a good sport?
The Gazette and Jai Ho today launch the second Sports Awards as we look to recognise the best sporting talent in South Tyneside.
The borough has a long and illustrious sporting heritage, with dozens of famous names making their mark on the national – and world – stage.
And after last year’s successful inception, the Sports Awards, In conjunction with sponsors Harton Technology College, return to reward the men and women who regularly excel in their chosen discipline.
And once again, we need your help!
Fill in the nomination form which you’ll find in the external links section to the right of this story if you know of someone who you feel is deserving of an honour.
Our judging panel will then consider each entry, before the winners will be announced at a prize-giving evening at Harton College on Thursday, May 19.
Gazette editor John Szymanski said: “South Tyneside, like the North East, has long been a hotbed of sport – and our awards aim to reflect that passion and commitment.
“Last year’s Sports Awards were a huge success in showcasing local talent and honouring those people who had excelled in their chosen discipline, and we are delighted to bring them back for a second year.
“If you know someone who deserves an award for their talent, determination and hard work, then please do nominate them. As a judge, I want my job to be made extremely difficult by having a strong field to choose from.
“We are looking forward to the ceremony in May, and showing that sport in South Tyneside, from the grass roots upwards, plays an important part in people’s lives and is thriving.”
